LeIA
Digital informed consent for the legal sector
A conversational interface that explains a legal document in plain language, checks that the person understood it, and gives the consent receipt a public timestamp.
Overview
An informed consent system for legal documents. The person uploads the PDF (power of attorney, fee agreement, settlement), discusses it by text or voice against a curated knowledge base, answers reflective questions scored by a rubric, and receives a receipt with a QR code whose hash is timestamped via OpenTimestamps and confirmed on the Bitcoin blockchain.
The problem
Legal documents get signed without being understood, and there is no verifiable record that an explanation was ever given. The academic basis is Dayane Bismark's research at UFSC (2025) on explainability of consent forms and conversational artificial agency.
Approach
Signing is not the same as understanding. The system separates the two: it records that the explanation happened, that comprehension was checked, and when, without storing the conversation itself. The citizen chat route stores nothing.
